Classroom Preparation As a teacher you've been entrusted with the minds of the youth. As such, presenting the right educational atmosphere will help you effectively communicate with your students. There are many items you can provide which will help aid you in this quest.
Classroom supplies should have one purpose—engaging the students and helping them to learn. That doesn't mean, however, that the supplies can't be fun. Setting up streamers to welcome students on the first day of school doesn't have any actual educational value, but they are a tool to help the students enjoy being in your classroom.

One fun way to engage students is with educational posters to hang around the classroom. You can get posters with cool literary quotes which encourage reading, or fun science quips from scientists like Albert Einstein which will show a side of the world the student may not have considered before. As much as possible you want to stimulate the students' own curiosity and foster their healthy interests.
Classroom materials aren't limited to fun things you hang on the wall. Giving out printable school materials is a fun way for the students to spend some class time and gives them a chance to figure out problems at their own speed. As great as your teaching is, giving the students a bit of a break with a worksheet will help keep them fresh.
While you want all students to bring their own writing utensil, it is important to keep a lot of spares around. Other school classroom supplies should include scissors, construction paper, magic markers, crayons, glue, and any other tool you think will be helpful for craftier projects.
For science classroom materials, you'll want items which help encourage scientific concepts. Before the semester starts, plan out the experiments you'll want to do with your students and acquire the supplies ahead of time. Depending on the type of equipment required, the school may already have the tools you need, but in many cases you'll have to provide the necessary supplies. Try to think outside the box to help ease your out-of-pocket expenses.
Getting the right school materials at the outset wil help you to start off the school year right. You want students to enjoy being in your classroom, making it a friendly atmosphere, while expanding your students' thinking skills. Your extra posters and craft ideas may not even be the first thing your students remember from their time in your classroom, but they will still have a major effect on them. |
